Maths Buddy

I am excited that once again we have been offered this programme free of charge until the end of the year (31st January).
Each child has a log-in which will be glued into the front cover of their homework books
If you want to just have a play in the meantime, head to www.mathsbuddy.co.nz
The difference between this site and Study Ladder is that each activity has a specific lesson preceding it, so that if your child is experiencing difficulties with the follow-up activity, the lesson can be listened to again and the task clarified before having another attempt.
Lessons and activities for all parts of the curriculum are here, so that if your child needs extra practice with a particular concept - here is the perfect opportunity for a private lesson and  activities. There is also the opportunity for extension.

Enjoy

Discovery - Week 3

This term Rooms 3 & 7 will have our 'discovery afternoon' separately to allow us to follow the separate paths our inquiry questions have taken.
Today in Room 3 we finished the rock painting - thank you Rachael and Regina for all your time and help with this activity over the past term. We will still need to use these 'experts' as we sort out our garden patch.  Hard to believe it's time for planting already.

Today some of us worked with the girls from Room 6 and made more pois. We will be using these in the main school kapahaka and also in our Rooms 3 & 4 group this term.
There is a box of techno lego in the classroom this term and today some of us undertook the 'monkey challenge' - to design and build a playground for bored monkeys.  A group worked with the lego and many others decided to build the monkey playground with the 'junk' from the cupboard.  Thank you so much to all of your who continue to provide such a wonderful resource for our making.

Thank you Ian for your help with discovery this afternoon.
A wee something from the poi making scraps.

Thanks everyone for your help.  We learned lots about how we can best share the lego today.

Sorting Our Inquiry Questions

What a great group of thinkers. We had a huge pile of questions that we needed to sort. The ideas for categories were: people, animals, mother nature and technology.
We had a busy time, and after some changing of where a question fitted - we have it sussed.

"What about this one? I think it goes somewhere else?"

We have just so many questions about animals!

Sports Poems

Poems that we wrote after we looked at how the rhyme and rhythm of Jack's poem went.
Lots of fun and exciting to share at assembly on Friday.

Ice Skating
Ice skating is slippery
Ice skating is twisty
Ice skating is fun
But it can be risky
I could fall over
Or I could get hurt
But most of the time
I skate like a squirt.
By Room 3

Pool
Pool is cool
Pool is a duel
Pool is a game
You play with a white ball
By Jack

Tee-ball
Tee-ball is fun,
Tee-ball is cool,
Tee- ball’s a game
I can play well.
I could hit really far,
Or I could run fast
But I’m so lucky
I don’t have a cast.
 By Liam

Biking
By Charlotte O
Biking is fun,
Biking is cool,
Biking is the game
I play with you
I can fall over
Or I can stay up
But most of the time
I love this job!

Ice Skating
By Isabella

Ice skating is slippery,
Ice skating is twisty,
Ice skating is fun
But it can be risky.
I could fall over
Or I could get hurt
But when I skate fast,
I skate faster than Bert.

Wrestling
By Fin & Zack

Wrestling is risky
Wrestling is hard core
Wrestling is dangerous
And also quite sore.
You can punch people
You can hold them down
1! 2! 3!
The crowd goes wild.
YEAH!

Ballet
By Eden

In ballet I spin, I twirl.
I stand up straight
On the tip of my toes.
But as I stand there
I get tired.
My teacher says
Don’t rest, don’t rest!
Or you will be fired.

(awesome work, Eden - you were away when we worked together as a class)

Hockey
By Pippa, Jada & Bella

Hockey is cool,
Hockey is great,
Hockey is a game
I play with my mate.
I could get hurt
Or I could be fine
But most of the time
I survive.

Ballet
By Tara

Ballet is fun,
Ballet is cool,
Ballet is something
I can do at school.
I can fall over
Or I can be proud
But most of the time
I’m as light
As a cloud.

Ice Skating
By Lily

Ice skating is twisty
Ice skating is risky
Ice skating is fun
But also quite spun.
Slipping around
Like a slimy slug.
The ice is sparkling
And shining
Like a piece of glass.

Soccer
By Quinn

Soccer is cool
Soccer is great
Soccer is a game
When you can get dirty.

Dancing
By Amelia

Dancing is fun,
Dancing is cool,
Dancing is going
To some day rule.
I can do tricks
And I can do clicks
But most of the time
It’s fun to do splits.

Golf Is Great
By Ted

Golf is good
Golf is great
Golf is a game
I play with my mate
I like golf
Golf is fun
I love golf
Golf is risky
I can get a hole in one
I can hit a ball
To the sun.

Skiing
By Aurelia

Skiing is fun
Skiing is cool
Skiing is better
Than the swimming pool.
I can do jumps
Or I could fall
But my little sister
Likes it more than
Bouncing a ball.

Go-carts
By Jedi & Jay-T

Go-carts are fun
Go-carts have four wheels
Go- carts are fast
Go- carts wheels squeal
When I skid round a corner.

Hope you enjoy reading these as much as we enjoyed writing them.

Week 3 Term 3

We are all enjoying having Mrs Stratford sharing the teaching in Room 3.  For her, the first couple of weeks have been like 'starting up a class' at the beginning of the year.
Thank you to the parents who joined us for our assembly last Friday.
After a very busy week last week, this week does not have heaps of extra activities.
Gymnastics with Sharelle Tuesday 1:30: last week our excitement of the initial week had worn off, (when many of us found it hard to stop and listen). We practised our balance skills on benches and the real beam. We also showed that we could co-operate well to compete in team challenges. Go Room 3!! Girls, please wear school sports uniform - trying to balance and do floor work in heavy kilts is difficult.
Cross Country Training for fitness: remember to wear trainers each day while we are running.
Monday 14th we will head to the cross country course to practise at 1:30. I need 2 or 3 parents who could accompany us for this EOTC experience.  Please email or text me if you are available.
Sunday 13th August - school mass 9:00am - please be seated with Room 3 in full winter school uniform by 8:55. If your child is unable to attend, please let me know so that they are not given a job. There will be morning tea at the conclusion of mass, so a small plate of food would be appreciated or  an item for the food bank. A reminder to children that they are to wait to leave the church with the teacher, and allow the adults to get a cuppa first. The morning tea was a bit cramped last time, and we don't want accidents with hot water.
Ski Trip: Thank you for all the offers of help for this day. We can now move ahead with the finer details of the planning.  A gear list went home on Friday in reading folders.

Homework:

  1. Reading - keep your log up to date.  If you have lost your reading log book, please see me and I will give you a log for the back of your homework book.
  2. Spelling - Go Room 3 - what a great job you did of the long 'u' spelling pattern last week. It's a tricky one and most of you nailed it. Second week of learning this pattern - I'm sure that you will all be just as successful.
  3. Cross Country Training - have a wee run to get that fitness up - only one week till you need a day off before the competition.
Looking forward to another great week of learning together.

No Sports Photos Tomorrow

Just a reminder, full winter uniform tomorrow with school shoes for the photos.
It has been decided to take the sports teams photos at a later date - see the newsletter.
