Week 4 Term 4

Whew! Thought this week was going to slow down, but apparently not.
Hope you and your family had a lovely time visiting your new school in Nelson, Casey.
Thank you so much to everyone who supported the teachers and the students at the athletic sports last Thursday. Despite some last minute work to be organised, it was an excellent decision to move it ahead by one day. Something to consider for next year could be the PTA BBQ running at lunchtime over there, and perhaps a wee cuppa taken to those people who worked so hard running each of the events.  I'll post this here so that someone else may remember for next year.  All in all thanks so much to the parents who helped and also to the children who showed their skills that they had been working over the last 4 weeks.

Central Otago Athletics:
All children who qualified have taken home information on Friday. Final information I will post on the blog. Loretta will issue track suit jackets for us to wear over the top of our sports uniform and track pants. I need someone to bring Mason, Sophie and Jack Sole back to school after the morning events please.

Thyme Festival is here already.  It is exciting to see us hosting another school showing our recycling programme and our garden.  Well done Enviro Group and Mr Yeoman.
The school Kapahaka group will be performing 2 items at the lunchtime concert on Wednesday and the whole school will be singing our finale from our outstanding musical - actions and all.  Be sure to practise this up again.

ICT: with Mrs Flannery on Monday morning, then again on Thursday afternoon this week.

Assembly: Friday at 2:10 lead by Room 5 & 6.

Saturday: Family Mass - this is the last Saturday family mass for the year.  Mrs Ward puts lots of effort into the preparation of these masses, which are a response to a request from some parents. Please support this opportunity to celebrate Eucharist as a family with other families.

Homework

  1. Spelling: some of us have moved levels after the testing at the end of last term.  It was super to see the spelling skills which people used in the test, although some of the spelling was not accurate.  This term we will be looking at the skill of sampling which means that we use the spelling patterns for the sounds that we hear to write the words, then as good readers we look and think about what looks right.
  2. Reading: last week we started and integrated reading unit (RE, Reading & Inquiry) as we  researched and shared what we found out about "Mary's Garden". We have discovered what this is, and have seen some awesome images.  Now we need to find out about which of these plants will grow in our environment where the Enviro Group plan is to have a reflective area in our school garden. This will be our over riding theme for the next wee while alongside instructional reading groups.
  3. Maths: keep working on all the activities that Mrs Waldron has set you.
  4. Most importantly - enjoy our spring weather, play sports, get outdoors, ride you bike, walk the dog and perhaps use your gardening skills in your garden at home.

Have a great week
