Week 8 Term 3

WOW, it's camp week already.
The last paperwork is finished, so now to look forward to a fun time of learning together.

Great to see so many of you at mass yesterday. Thank you so much Olivia for sharing a prayer of the faithful and to Milla nad Mackenzie who stepped up to lead the sung responses. Very proud of you all.

Wednesday morning
Please be at school at 8am and look for the parent who is looking after your learning group. This parent will assist you with getting your bag under the bus and check that you have everything that you need in your day bag.

  • good sized lunch
  • drink bottle
  • waterproof jacket
  • old shoes for Gabriel's Gully & plastic bag to put them in
  • notebook, pencil, book to read
We will load the bus about 8:25 and hope to depart at 8:30

Our honey wraps are nearly all finished. Thank you so much Fiona for assisting the children with these. We will take these with us to camp to wrap lunches from Thursday.

Eisteddfods will be heard while we are away at camp, remember to bring your words if you need them. Weeks 9 & 10 are very busy at school, so it will be great to have these done early.

While away at camp we will be working in camp books, recording some of what we do, and there is also some of our learning from this term in these. Mrs Roberts will bring these back from camp, as there is work to finish in them during the last 2 weeks of the term. Once this is completed, these can go home as a record of the first camp experience and learning. You are welcome to come into class and have a look if you want.

Friday: we hope to depart Dunedin at 1pm. We will get a message to school and on facebook advising our arrival time in Alexandra with your tired but happy campers.

As I will be away from Saturday, it is time to wish you all a very busy time getting our dance ready for Aladdin and a wonderful holiday.

If you need to contact a teacher, please contact Mrs Roberts aliroberts@stgerards.school.nz

Parent Helpers for lunch wrap making

Today Room 4 began the final part of the process of waxing and baking their wraps. It was a fairly time consuming process and a few were finished.
Are there any parents who would be available to assist with this process either tomorrow afternoon or Friday? I envisage a small group would work with an adult to complete the process. This is new to me, but the instructions seem quite straight forward. I understand that there are parents out there who have already made their own, so may be aware of any pitfalls.
Let me know if you can help please as we would love for each child to have a wrapper to take with them to camp.

Honey Wraps for Camp

To help us to be more environmentally friendly we will be making personal honey wraps for our lunches at camp.

If anyone has off cuts of cotton fabric to make these, students could bring this along. It would also be useful to have some pinking shears if anyone is happy to lend these so that our wraps don't fray.

Discovery Pictures

A short discovery session, but very busy. We love getting outside again now that it is warmer.

Week 7 Term 3

Gosh Week 7 already. This week our learning is based around camp. As we will be away on camp during Maori Language Week, our reading, poetry and oral language is based around Maori language and stories. Last week was Taniwha Week - there were some amazing taniwha drawn in poetry books. I hope you enjoyed them.

My apologies to anyone who went to check out the poetry at Central Stories and couldn't find their poem. I understood that any poems that were not on the display board would be in the folder. If yours was not there perhaps I misunderstood what I was told, or perhaps the poem was not in the pile that I took down.

This week the Kapahaka group will be performimg at Ranui (Monday afternoon) and Tuesday morning at Dunstan Educare and Little Oaks. If anyone wishes to accompany us, we will be leaving school at 10am on Tuesday.
Gymnastics on Wednesday - please wear sports uniforms
School Mass is this Sunday at 9am. Please let me know if your child will not be attending.
School Photos wil be taken on Thursday morning please wear full winter uniform.

Keep working on your Singing Eisteddfods these will be heard while at camp. Check the marking schedule posted on the blog.

Many Hands Makes Light Work: 2 people have done one of the suggested activities towards getting ready for camp. The sheet to fill in should be in homework books - check that out. Part of camp is about looking after ourselves and helping others out - some things that you can practise at home.

Mihimihi - many of these are sounding pretty fluent - Go Room 3!! Keep working on these.

Spelling: this week we are looking at the 'er' spelling patterns. This is the last week of spelling for this term.

Some people are still having trouble with managing to have their poetry or homework book at school. Please have a scout around at home.

Hoping everyone is getting ready for camp. Thank you to the parents who attended the meeting last week as we discussed the roles and responsibilities associated with being a 'camp parent'. Your children will be well looked after. All children know who their 'night-time' parent is. This is the person who will look after them overnight. The daytime learning groups are still to be confirmed. If there are any worries about camp, please don't hestitate to talk to me about it.

Our prayers are with Taine and his family. His grandad Robin Ballantyne died last night.
