Week 6 Term 1

We were all so proud of Room 3 last week. Super Monday morning prayer, awesome swimmers at the swimming sports and some swimming so well in the main pool races too, then as the leaders for the Ash Wednesday mass. You showed that you had prepared well for the parts that you had to do.  Congratulations - both staff and parents are very proud of you.
This week is the Triathlon on Tuesday. We are learning about the transitions from run to bike, and bike to swim on Monday. Please have your bike at school so that you can practise this.
As in last years, all year 1-4 students will travel to the pool at 12:10 by bus. Lunch will be at 11:30. Bikes need to be dropped off at the pool. There is no bus back to school, so children need to be picked up from the pool between 2:30 and 2:45. Any ordinary bus children will be brought back to school by staff. The year 3&4 races are after the year 7&8 competitive and the year 1&2 races.
Sunhats are really important. We are a Sunsmart School!! Sports Uniform can be worn both Monday and Tuesday as we practise for and participate in the school triathlon.
This week Year 3 will be tested on the Progress and Achievement Test - Listening Comprehension.  The Year 4 girls will join the year 4's in Room 4 and have this test as well as 3 others - reading and maths.
Mrs Flannery will be teaching on Wednesday morning.
Assembly this week will be organised by Rooms 1, 2 and 7.  Looking forward to seeing and hearing about their fantastic camp.

Homework

  1. Reading: Gosh a number of people are getting closer to their 25 nights of reading.  Don't forget that you can also record weekend reading, and the poetry on Fridays also counts. This week with a shortened time in the classroom for me on Tuesday and with Mrs Flannery on Wednesday morning, reading books will need to be taken from browse boxes.  These books are perfect for getting our reading sounding like talking. The focus at my Reading Recovery In-Service last week was about "how the reading sounds", so I will continue to have this as a class focus with our reading, as well as strategies and comprehension of course.  This will mean that some people will not be racing up through levels, but will take their time, making sure that the 'juncture' (using punctuation effectively) and pace of the reading are well established.
  2. Spelling: The words need to be tooled and listened to every night.  Remember that you are learning the process of hearing and recording sounds in order, not learning the spelling of a few selected words.
  3. Term 1 Eisteddfod is a Scripture Reading. It is time to start reading some Bible stories and thinking about which one is special to you.  The Year 3 & 4 eisteddfod is to: 1) Talk about the reading you chose - especially why you chose it. What is special about it for you? 2) Read 2 or 3 verses of the Scripture.  I will post the exact criteria closer to the time. Eisteddfods will be heard on Monday 10th April. Giving plenty of notice here.
  4. Morning Programme preparation.
  5. Religious Education if Ms Bennett sends some home.
Have another great week of learning!
