The very special piece of art looked like an ordinary log for the fire on one side, but had the carved face of Jesus on the other. It was given to him by a friend who was with him at university when they were training to be priests. They had seen this carving when they walked past an Auckland shop, and his friend gave it to him as a special gift when he was ordained as a priest in Dunedin.
