Young Scientists In The Holidays

Mr Hogue came and spoke to us about helping New Zealand scientists by using our skill of observation to take a survey in and around our gardens for one hour. Some people have taken home a hard copy sheet that Mr Hogue copied and this can be brought back to school to him after the holidays.
There is also the opportunity to complete this on line by going to www.birdsurvey.org.nz - there are also some great photographs to help people identify which bird is which.
Our skill of observation is one that many people are using in their learning all the time.  Today we noticed that our shadows that we measured yesterday afternoon were completely different when we walked past them after skating today. Why was this? After excited chatter it was agreed that the sun was shining in a different direction.  Shadows has been ongoing learning started by Mr Hogue - a shame that we have had so many overcast days when we should have been doing our weekly measures on Tuesday afternoons.
