Week 3 Term 2

What a great opportunity to listen to an inspiring presenter today.  I hope that you have all enjoyed doing something special for teacher's only day today.  I am here 'reflecting' on many things that I hope to be able to include in my personal journey as a teacher.
Thank you to those people who have their homework books at school every day and in the homework tray on a Friday, and bring their poetry books back on a Monday morning ready for the new poem.  This really saves catch up later in the week.
Swimming: Tuesday 12:30, Thursday 10:45. Thursday's lesson will be 45 minutes, so we will leave school at 10:30 and return at 12:30.  We will take some work to the pool to do as we wait for Room 2 to have their lesson.
Friday: Pink Tee-shirt Day.  Wear something pink to support Sticks and Stones, an anti bullying group. Mrs Sanders explained this on Friday at assembly.
Our Assembly: Friday 27th May. Last week while Mrs Flannery was releasing us she used our reading plan and taught us how to use "Book Creator" an i-pad app to present our information. Our WALT:   Find similarities and differences between Royal Road Primary and St Gerards. This school's school garden journey had been published in a School Journal.  There were great opportunities to take photos, write text, lay out pages and of course working within a group situation, discussing and working together.  The children are excited by what they have to present.  I will be using Mrs Flannery's ICT skill for this part of our assembly as she has our presentations saved on her computer.  Mrs Flannery also told me that she had discovered a wireless way to send i-pad work to a computer.  Now that we have learned how to use this app, this will be another presenting tool available to us for reading and inquiry which I am trying to link together.  Next Learning Step for Room 3 will be to learn how to use "Comic Life".
Sunday 29th May 9am is this term's school mass.  Put this on your calendar - this is the opportunity to gather with the church family for the family meal the "Eucharist". Please have children seated by 8:50.

Homework

  1. Reading - be sure to complete your reading log. Browse box books need to be taken home if you don't have a book on the go at home. With all the interruptions reading has been poetry and big book and theme based - Week 1 Anzac based, Week 2 Inquiry based. So yes we have been reading but not in instruction group rotations as we did in term 1 - yes we will be reading like this again.  I have also spent time doing individual running records as last term's groups are reorganised.
  2. Spelling - good to see most people are completing their spelling.  Keep this up.  This week we are beginning to look at the spelling patterns for long vowels. Over the next 2 weeks our vowel is 'a'.  Depending on the level your child is on they will look at play, make (we say 'a' split 'e'), famous, eight, rain.  This spelling pattern will be written in the 'to learn' column of the spelling sheet.
  3. Swimming - be organised with your togs Tuesday & Thursday.

Looking forward to a great week.
