Week 3 Term 3

Four weeks until camp - exciting!!  Thank you to those people who returned their camp slips and indicated whether they would like to join the camp as parents. If I haven't heard from you please get your slip back immediately.

We are working on the opening part of our mihimihi, where we talk about the area where we live.
We introduce ourselves with:

Kia ora koutou      - a greeting

Ko Kopowai te maunga  -  our mountain is Kopowai - the Old Man Range

Ko Manuherikia te awa     - we have a choice of river depending which we live closest to
Ko Matau te awa          Clutha River - comes from Lake Wakatipu, the story the giant of Wakatipu

Ko ururwhenua  te whenua     - our Central Otago area

Listen to your child say this part - the more we do it the easier it will get - we will be practising this each day in class.

Once we have mastered this we will continue with the bits we already know about Mum & Dad before we learn to talk about our brothers and sisters and our family, then finally our own name.
The Te Reo WALTs for the term are:

  • to be able to confidently say our mihimihi to introduce ourselves
  • understand the protocols for a powhiri at the marae
  • design a kowhaiwhai pattern for our family and talk about what it represents
  • perform confidently as part of the Room 3 & 4 Kapahaka group
Cross Country:
Separate information sheet.  We have all walked and run the track that we will use, so it has been decided that the walk before we start racing won't be needed this year.
Be sure to bring a drink and an extra to nibble on, although we are the last races of the day. We are "Going For Gold!" which means that we are all going to do our very best and encourage everyone else to do the same - it's not about getting the gold medal as the winner!
Remember that lunch is at 12:00.
If your child is leaving with you, please send a note so that we can mark this off.  It is really difficult trying to keep track of people at the ned of the day otherwise.

Noah - the school musical: Rooms 3 & 4 will be: boys: Jamaican dancers, (Man O Man), girls: doves or ballet dancers. (Follow Your Heart/Fly Little Dove) . We will be working on the singing of the songs that we are all part as the term goes on.  Not enough hours in the day at the moment.

We welcome Father Pat to Room 3 this week as part of our R.E. learning. Our new word to understand is "Messiah".

Saturday is Family Mass - we have some people who will take part in this.  Great to see that there will be a liturgical dance.  Tea at 5pm BYO finger food. Mass at 6pm.
